I think I would literally snap if this happened to me at work. I think I would black out and wake up in the back of a police car covered in blood.
Serving IS a real job. It’s not a great career for most people, but it’s a job. I pay my bills every month from waiting tables. I’m supporting myself solely from what I make as a waitress while figuring out what I want to do with my life and working for free as C.O.O of a start-up. I know tons of people who support families on the income they make from serving.
I sincerely hope this is a hoax, because this is just appalling. Servers in every state besides Oregon and Washington are paid sub-wages - LESS than minimum wage. Basically nothing after taxes. Tip your servers and tip them well, because that’s all they get paid. You’re welcome to eat at home if you don’t like it.
If this ever happened to me, I would definitely scream for a straight ten seconds and then continue to bawl for the rest of the day.
-This is one of the reasons I got out of the hospitality industry. It’s fucking degrading; and here in Canada, you still get minimum wage to go along with your tips, abuse and humiliation.
I cooked thankfully, but for 10 years, I got to observe the tips system in play. The glorious abuse of labour and wages and health care, because it’s a transient job. Then when you point out that it’s transient because of the conditions, you get told but the tips makes up for it.
You know what? No. Fuck you very much they don’t.
Then there’s shit like this. Whether or not this particular image is real is irrelevant, this kind of shit happens an awful fucking lot.
I’ve seen waitresses end their day in tears, because of a dine and dash on a hitty night. I spent a decade living in that corrosive environment, watching people drink their frustration and tensions away at the end of the night on cheap ‘staff prced’ drinks. The entire environment and set-up is abusive.
It’s a real fucking learning experience though.
